Cricket
The boys are playing happily on newly mown lawn with a cricket set. Mateo has already shown amazing cricket skills in batting and fielding. He can throw down the stumps from all angles and has an effective sweep shot for spin bowling. He is learning the terminology of the game and yells 'howzat!' at appropriate times. To our American friends and rellies, check out the twitter story about '@theashes' , just brilliant. I think the lesson here, though, is that it is time for America to get on board with a a 5 day game of test cricket. Lets just think of baseball as a transition phase and we'll all agree to forget about it.
Mateo and Owen will open the batting for Australia in around 2030 so its important we get organised now.
BTW, those are the 'stumps' in the foreground of this pic.

Zoo
Today Mateo, Owen and Daddy went to the National Zoo and Aquarium. We saw tigers, bears, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, sharks, snakes.....
Mateo absolutely loved it and was frequently squealing with excitement. He even got to pat a Kangaroo and watch a tiger get fed sausages up close (about 2-3m)!
